Streamline Access: Mac Users Gain Quick AI Chatbot Access with Dedicated App
Shortcut
On Monday, ChatGPT unveiled its latest flagship model, the GPT-4o, catering to
both Plus and free users and boasting multimodal capabilities. Additionally,
the company debuted its inaugural desktop app for macOS, with a Windows
version slated for release later this year.
The new macOS app, provided at no cost, maximizes the potential of GPT-4o and
seamlessly integrates into the operating system, offering functionality across
various applications and services. Users can conveniently access it via a
shortcut (Option + Space).
Moreover, the ChatGPT desktop app supports voice interactions and is set to
incorporate GPT-4o’s audio and video features in the near future. Initially
available to Plus subscribers, plans are underway to make it accessible to all
users soon.
Despite numerous counterfeit ChatGPT apps on the Mac App Store, the official
version has yet to be listed. Some users have resorted to downloading the app
directly from OpenAI’s directory. However, upon login attempts, they encounter
a 'coming soon' message, with access restricted to Plus subscribers, who pay
$20 monthly for premium services.
Screenshots reveal that the ChatGPT macOS app is optimized for desktop use,
akin to the updated web version. It offers a resizable window and enables
users to directly upload screenshots of images or text to generate related
queries.
Adhering to an Apple-first strategy, ChatGPT initially launched its mobile app
for iPhone, with an Android counterpart following later. Similarly, the
desktop app is currently exclusive to Mac users, although the company has
confirmed plans for a Windows release later this year.
